Blogger & Podcaster - A Playful Day

Kate O’Sullivan is a blogger and podcaster who believes firmly in the power of a good story well told.  Her blog and podcast, A Playful Day, are for makers and people who love tales that are rich in creativity. A Playful Day is a place for makers to celebrate their craft, travellers to rest, and friends to gather.

A Playful Day was created as a reminder to seek playful moments that invigorate us and make our hearts glad. Trapped in a soul destroying job, Kate started to seek photos and words that helped her escape the feeling that she was living only at the weekends. With a camera and a microphone, Kate began sourcing tales and ideas that inspired her to think bigger than the clock watching that had come to dictate her life. What followed was a career change and Kate now freelances within the creative industries, using her photography and writing skills to help brands tell their stories online.

It was while chasing a story to share on the podcast that the biggest life change happened as Kate stumbled upon a thatched cottage by the sea in rural Dorset. Deciding to follow her own narrative for once, Kate scooped herself and her young daughter up and relocated out of busy London. Where once there was noise and concrete, there are now wild flowers and always the possibility of pocketing a newborn lamb. Kate is working hard on leaving the lambs where they should be while she connects with local makers and places to find new words and images that inspire.

Creating a life online has proved a powerful resource for a busy self-employed single mother. It has led her to The Maker’s Year, a project that focuses on everyday creativity. The Maker’s Year is a creative call to arms to document the many ways in which we make and share it with others. Celebrating how creativity looks different in each and every home has fuelled A Playful Day and grown a community of makers eager to connect to share ideas and inspiration.

Whether collaborating with other creatives, snapping images for The Maker’s Year or recording an interview with a maker who is passionate about their craft, it always comes back to the story telling. Always.

Kate will be running a session on Community at Blogtacular.

  • There have been a lot of posts about the press release from the CMA this week. Lots of them about ‘new’ influencer posting rules, some of them inaccurate or misleading. Have you heard something that worries you? We’re always happy to share knowledge and point you in the right direction so please ask if you need clarification.
You know we’re big supporters of following the rules and clearly disclosing at the beginning of posts - it’s the only way to cement our reputation as an industry committed to transparency. But, as with all rules getting to grips with them isn’t always plain sailing. Our podcast episode 36 is a masterclass from the ASA themselves in how to keep your ads, gifts and products clear online. #blogtacular
